Biography
[Edit]Gideon Freudmann's unorthodox approach to cello playing has allowed him to play with Richard Thompson, Patty Larkin and They Might Be Giants, all while releasing instrumental and vocal solo albums in a wide variety of styles. Raised in New Hampshire, he began studying cello and piano at an early age. Freudmann played on-and-off during high school, but was also influenced by popular music. While at the University of Connecticut, he formed a cello/guitar duo named Holiday Clocks that performed at several festivals around the area. Freudmann graduated with a cello performance major, and in 1987 Holiday Clocks released an album. He later decided to begin recording on himself, releasing several cassettes and the independent CD Fellini's Martini on his own CelloBop label. Gadfly Records heard Freudmann's material and signed the cellist to a contract. His first two albums for Gadfly, Banking Left and Cellobotomy (both 1995), consist of songs from the early cassettes. Subsequent efforts include 1997's Adobe Dog House, 1998's Sound of Distant Deer and 1999's Hologram Crackers. Ukranian Pajama Party followed in early 2001.
