Biography

[Edit]

Marianne Flemming was born and raised in sunny Florida. She began her musical training in both piano and guitar when she was only nine years old, inspired by her father, who was a nightclub singer. By the time Flemming was 18, she was already performing at local bars, and impressing audiences with her music. As a young adult she attended the University of South Florida, where she studied Music Composition and Theater, earning a BA in the latter. After performing every where from Europe to Venezuela, Flemming made her first recording, a cassette, in 1992. Her debut album, 111 Chords & A Bridge, was released independently in 1995. It carries tracks like "I Could Never Be a Stranger," "Main Squeeze," and "Watching History Repeat." Venetian Dream came out in 1999, bringing fans a number of new tunes, including "Where Dreams Come True," "Limbo," and "Evil Disposition." Venetian Dream was followed in 2000 by the release of Joy Ride, which had originally been recorded in 1996 as a cassette. In between recording in the studio, Flemming appears at clubs and coffeehouses, and even performs with a Jazz duo on occasion. She has worked with some noteworthy artists along the way, like Carrie Newcomer, Magda Hiller, Rory Block, Leon Russell, Bo Diddley, Southern Culture on the Skids, Peter Mulvey, and others. Flemming's music is a mixture that probably comes from her fast travels, incorporating rock with a little jazz, a hint of reggae, and some blues and folk stirred in just for good measure.
