Biography
[Edit]One of the best-kept secrets in indie rock, Motel Beds make breezy, sunshiny garage rock from their home base in Dayton, Ohio. Formed in 2001, the band's sound evokes a more beach-ready take on lo-fi pop than fellow Ohioans Guided by Voices, a sound they debuted in 2004 on their debut EP, Hasta MaƱana. Although the initial lineup, consisting of singer Paul John Paslosky, guitarists Tommy Cooper and Patrick Himes, bassist John Lakes, and drummer Ian Kaplan, disbanded in 2005, the band returned, reinvigorated, in 2009. Adding guitarist and producer Derl Robbins in place of Himes, Motel Beds discovered their prolific streak, releasing an impressive string of albums, starting with a pair of records, the full-length Moondazed and the EP Go for a Dive, that same year. The band returned with another full-length, Feelings, in 2010, before coming back strong with a pair of albums, Tango Boys and Sunfried Dreams, in 2011. Their fifth album, Dumb Gold, arrived in 2012, and, after a period of relative silence from the band, was followed by a handpicked greatest-hits collection, These Are the Days Gone By, in 2014.
