Biography
[Edit]London trio Nedry mix sinister basslines and skittering beats straight out of dubstep with ethereal guitars and vocals that suggest Björk or the Cocteau Twins. The earliest version of the group — whose name pays homage to the traitorous park programmer in Jurassic Park — began in 2007, when multi-instrumentalist/programmers Matt Parker and Chris Amblin teamed with vocalist Ayu Okakita and collaborated over the Internet. In early 2008, they started meeting face to face in preparation for live shows, but Okakita departed the band for a short time to return to her native Japan. Meanwhile, Parker and Amblin continued Nedry, honing their sound with performances as a duo. Okakita returned to the band in early 2009, and they began playing and recording as a trio in earnest, performing gigs with acts including Pivot, Maps, and Daedelus. They self-released the SZ EP that summer and issued the mini-album Condors a few months later on Off the Shelf Records. The growing acclaim for Nedry's music — which included praise and airplay from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, and XFM — led to the band's signing with Monotreme Records, which reissued Condors in 2010. While the trio spent much of the next two years touring with like-minded artists including Pivot, Daedelus, and These New Puritans, they issued In a Dim Light, which was inspired by the moody works of David Lynch and T.S. Eliot, in March 2012.
