One of the most important Carioca poets, Paulo César Feital also proved to be a prolific and creative popular song composer with more than 200 works. Nominated for the Sharp Prize for the songs "Dias de Lua" (written with Cláudio Cartier/Marco Aurélio; a song included on the soundtrack to the soap opera Direito de Amar and the series Araponga, on TV Globo), "40 Anos" (written with Altay Veloso), "Flamboyant" (written with Jota Maranhão), "Perfume Siamês" (written with Altay Veloso), and "Saigon" (written with Cláudio Cartier). Feital had his compositions recorded by Don Burrows, Barry Manilow, Luz Marina, Milton Nascimento ("No Analices"), Tim Maia, Beth Carvalho ("Cinelândia," "Saigon"), Nana Caymmi ("No Analices"), Emílio Santiago ("Saigon"), Quarteto em Cy, Cauby Peixoto, Danilo Caymmi, Alcione, João Nogueira, Leny Andrade, and others. As a producer, he was responsible for the CD Escolas de Samba Carnaval, and as a music director he worked in the shows 15 Anos de Carlinhos Vergueiro (Copacabana Palace, Rio), Novos e Outros Traços (with Clarisse, at the Teatro da Praia and Mistura Fina, Rio), Farmacopéia (with João Nogueira), and Filha da Pátria (with Cris Delanno, Garden Hall, Rio).

Feital had one of his poems, Escravo do Amor, made into a song by Aidran de Carvalho and recorded by Moreira da Silva on Morengueira 64 when he was only 13. In 1974, he started to pen songs with Cláudio Cartier. After 1977, Feital became the artistic director of the Clube do Samba (Rio), participating in that capacity in the shows De Amor é Bom (João Nogueira), Correntes de Aço (Roberto Ribeiro), 50 Anos de Elizeth Cardoso, 40 Anos de Elis Regina, and Viva Clara (Beth Carvalho/João Nogueira), among others. In 1991, his composition "Luz" (written with Altay Veloso), interpreted by Clarisse, won the South American Music Festival of Foz do Iguaçu. With Roberto Menescal, Feital wrote soundtracks for plays like Subo Nesse Palco and Temporal; and with Cláudio Cartier he wrote the music for the documentary Colônia Juliano Moreira, interpreted by Milton Nascimento. Having written the text and realized the artistic direction of Música nos Tempos do Collera, he participated in the performance with Carlinhos Vergueiro for six months at the Ruth Escobar theater (São Paulo). In 1992, he formed the Companhia das Ilusões, with Clarisse, Nina Miranda, and Altay Veloso, touring the country and recording the CD Paulo César Feital e a Companhia das Ilusões.
