Biography
[Edit]Some of the hardest edged British folk music has been produced by Leicester-born Pete Morton. Having honed his skills in a series of school-based punk bands, Morton has taken a similar approach to his interpretations of traditional songs and folk-rooted compositions. According to British music magazine, Froots, Morton "is amongst the best that the British roots music scene has produced in living memory." Inspired by the music of Bob Dylan, Morton moved towards acoustic music in the late '80s. Moving to Manchester, he was quickly signed to a recording contract by the Harbourtown record label. His debut album, Frivulous Love was a critical hit. Shortly after the release of his second album, One Big Joke, in 1988, Morton toured North America for the first time.
Morton has balanced his solo career with performances with Urban Folk, a band that he shares with accordion and keyboards player Roger Wilson and fiddler Simon Edwards. His album, Hunting the Heart was recorded with fiddler Tom McConville and accordion player Andy Cutting and features a duet of the traditional tune "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes," performed with Julie Murphy.
