Biography
[Edit]Best known as an actor in the French cinema of the 1950s, Robert Lamoureux also performed as a cabaret singer during this same period and released a variety of commercial recordings on the Philips label. Born January 4, 1920, in Paris, France, he made his acting debut in 1951 in the André Berthomieu film Le Roi des Camelots. Subsequent films from the 1950s in which he appears include Allô...Je T'aime (1952), Papa, Maman, la Bonne et Moi... (1954), Si Paris Nous Était Conté (1955), Rencontre à Paris (1956), Les Aventures d'Arsène Lupin (1957), La Vie à Deux (1958), and Signé Arsène Lupin (1959). In 1960s Lamoureux directed and acted in a couple relatively unsuccessful films (Ravissante, La Brune Que Voilà) before leaving the French cinema in favor of the theater. He returned to the cinema temporarily in the mid-'70s, during which time he wrote, directed, and starred in the films Mais où Est Donc Passée la Septième Compagnie? (1973), Impossible...Pas Français (1974), On a Retrouveé la 7e Compagnie (1975), and Opération Lady Marlène (1975). In later years a series of Lamoureux compilations were released that generally rounded up the highlights of his Philips material from the 1950s.
