Biography

[Edit]

Singer/songwriter Rose Elinor Dougall has been a permanent fixture on the indie pop scene since joining the Pipettes at the age of 17. Dougall was born in 1986 in London but grew up in Kent with a musical family. Her father, Alistair, was a singer/songwriter on the Brighton scene, while brother Thomas later went onto be the guitarist in Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong. She developed a love of music after listening to her parents' folk and reggae records, and after attending Camberwell College of Arts, began writing her own songs. In 2003, she joined the '60s-inspired girl group the Pipettes, who went onto score two Top 40 singles, "Pull Shapes" and "Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me." After five years, she left the band to pursue her solo career and provided guest vocals on tracks by Brakes, Young Playthings, and Dr. Colossus. Her debut album, Without Why, featuring the singles "Another Version of Pop Song" and "Start/Stop/Synchro," was released in 2010. Dougall also appeared on Mark Ronson's Record Collection album and performed on his U.K. tour as part of the Business International. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
