Biography
[Edit]After the experimental rock outfit Thela broke up in 1996, members Rosy Parlane and Dion Workman became Parmentier. That project lasted until 1998 when Parlane began investigating soundscapes, tape loops, and field recordings on his own. Three self-released 7"s appeared that year with the sequential titles #1, #2, and #3 before they were collected on the full-length #1-4, the first release from the Sigma Editions label. A move from his native New Zealand to London in 2000 coincided with the release of Parlane's collaboration with Fennesz, the 3" CD Live (At Synesthesia). The album Getxo appeared a year later and in 2002 Parlane joined Eddie Provost and Mattin for the project Sakada and the album Undistilled. In 2003 he contributed to the Antiopic label's "Allegorical Power Series," a series of free MP3 releases that explored the "potential of sound art in the context of and as a response to global injustice." The 2004 album Iris was his first effort for Jon Wozencroft and Mike Harding's Touch label. The relationship continued with the 2006 release Jessamine.
