Biography

[Edit]

Roykey Wydh, raised on the Caribbean island of Aruba, first made a name for himself with his amazing guitar session work. He moved to Europe in the beginning of the '80s, landing backing gigs with artists like Lionel Ritchie, Patrick Gammon, and others.

In 1984, Wydh, who prefers to be known simply as Roykey, pulled together some of the best session musicians around, including drummers Curt Cress and Alphonse Mouzon and guitarist Larry Coryell, to complete a debut album titled Secret Message. "All Things Must Come to Pass," "Reaching Out," and "Hard Romance" are some of the acoustic jazz-flavored numbers on the album. After the success of Secret Message, Roykey, and his band Creo Roots, went on to record a number of other full-length works for BSC Music. Adding his homeland music stylings to his tunes, Roykey named his next album after his band. It was followed by It Smells Live in 1994, Look Arong in 1996, and Guitar Man in 1998, which is his first best-of album.
