Biography
[Edit]Modern rock quartet, Season's End, started out in 1997 as a duo comprised of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex West on guitar and percussionist Danny Little on drums. The band was completed the following year as bassist and sometime webmaster Dan Morris joined as did jazz piano-enthusiast Matt Ebright. Playing mainly throughout Columbus, Ohio in taverns, college venues and at Midwest music festivals, the diverse influences that informed this band (Tool, The Beatles, Andy Summers, and George Gershwin) gave their live shows rich texture as they not only performed their own original songs, but also inspired covers of The Stones, The Cure and U2 among others.
Alex West, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, who moved to Ohio as a toddler, has been in and out of start-up bands since his late teens. His primary musical talent was the drums, but as the duo he created with his high school friend, Danny Little, took shape, West moved on to the guitar, songwriting and vocals. Coming out of a region better known for raw indie punk and Americana folk music, Season's End's heavily melodic approach to songcraft fulfills a vacant spot with a fresh sound. Their songs are neither angry nor whining, for which much of the college-age oriented, late '90's music has been known. Their music is instead steeped in subtle spiritual undertones with hints of progressive pop rock with jazz influences. A nascent, yet competently self produced debut, Spring in Struggleville was recorded in 1998, with all songs written by West. Using a rented Tascam 388/ 8-track analogue reel-to-reel, all the mixing, arranging and engineering for the disc was completed within a single week. Season's End released Spring in Struggleville on December 19, 1998 on their own Stonewater Records label.
