Biography
[Edit]Award-winning Canadian singer Susan Aglukark signed a recording contract with the EMI Music Canada label in 1993 — a worldwide contract. Her recordings quickly became popular on both Canadian radio and television shows. By 1995, her sixth album, her third with EMI, This Child, hit the market, and promptly went double platinum.
Aglukark was born in Churchill, Manitoba. She was raised in a large family and as the daughter of a minister who moved his family around from small community to smaller community. Still, her life was normal enough. She finished school and then found work as a linguist for the Canadian Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Through those days of ordinary work, her love for music burned within her, waiting for all of the little gigs she took to pay off with something bigger. In 1990, Aglukark took a huge leap of faith by independently releasing a debut single called "Searching." She followed it with three full-length offerings: Dreams for You, Christmas, and Arctic Rose. In 1993, she landed a contract with EMI and began to release a number of singles like "Song of the Land," "Still Running," "Suffer in Silence," and "Breakin' Down." EMI also reissued two of her first albums, Arctic Rose and Christmas. In 1995, Aglukark came out with a brand new offering, This Child. The album was followed by a real child the next year, her first born. In between being a mother and wife and recording and touring, Aglukark shares her time and talents with worthy groups like the Aboriginal Division of the National Alcohol and Drug Prevention Program.
