Biography
[Edit]Vocalist Susie Thorne was raised among a variety of musical styles, beginning with the choir music she heard in church along with her mother, and the jazz music played by her dad and his band. She served as her mom's piano accompanist during her youth in Omaha, NE, and also sang with her dad's ensemble. Her own musical taste added some spice to the mix, thanks to her penchant for the Motown sound. Before enrolling in the University of Colorado, where she majored in piano performance, Thorne devoted her talents to singing on tour with an R&B group in the U.S., as well as entertaining as a solo act across Europe. At the university, she rediscovered the energizing pull of jazz. As a vocal performance student, she drew inspiration from the recordings of such artists as Anita O'Day and Ella Fitzgerald. Following an extended period of performing in Japan and Hong Kong, Thorne went to work on her first solo recording, Love for Sale, which was issued by Triple Seven Productions in 2000.
