Biography
[Edit]You could easily think of Taylor Barton only as the wife of talented musician/producer G.E. Smith. Considering Barton's own considerable talent, that would be a mistake. Barton is from Maryland, although she became a full-fledged New Yorker. During an appearance on "Saturday Night Live, " she met Smith, the SNL house band's guitarist and music director. Smith would become her husband, producer and partner in independent music label "Green Mirror Music." Barton's first CD, Mean American Dream, was recorded with her band Generic Blondes. It got critical acclaim and some airplay. Her second solo CD, Taylor Barton - Thoroughbred, featured some of New York's best musicians — guitarist Andy York of the John Mellencamp band, former SNL bassist Paul Ossola and former Wings drummer Steve Holley. Skinny Kat, her 1998 release, again included Ossola, Holley and York as well as multi-instrumentalist and producer Smith. Barton wrote every song on the album. She received ASCAP popular panel awards in 1994, 1997 and 1998 for her overall songwriting and performances. She is an award-winning playwright who wrote 'The Eric Clapton Breakfast Club" and "Pedro N' Pete, a Rock N' Roll Odyssey for Eco Kids." Another project is a musical called "Road Clips." Barton has performed in theatre, commercials, films, and appeared on numerous syndicated radio and TV shows, for at least two decades. Mid-2000 saw the release of 13 Break Ups. Two years later, Barton issued her fifth album, the ambitious Dry Land.
