Biography

[Edit]

Croydon's Banned is best remembered for scoring with an astonishingly catchy hit remake of the Syndicate of Sound's "Little Girl" in 1978; however, just one further single appeared before the band broke up later in the year — a sad legacy for such an entertaining band.

Formed by Rick Mansworth (vocals, guitar), Pete Fresh (guitar), John Thomas (bass), and Paul Sordid (drums), the band originally released "Little Girl" on their own Can't Eat label in September 1977. Swiftly selling out the first pressing, even before the U.K. music press descended to praise them to the skies, the band signed with the Harvest major and "Little Girl" was reissued just two months later. It reached number 36 on the U.K. chart, but before a follow-up could be cut, both Mansworth and Thomas had departed, to be replaced by Ben Dover and Tommy Steal. However, "Him or Me" flopped and the band broke up soon after.
