Biography

[Edit]

Disco producer Tony Valor scored significant club hits with several different groups during the late '70s and early '80s, and also released records under his own name. Valor's first successes came as a producer with Maryann Farra (1976's "Do Those Little Things," the first 12" single on Brunswick Records) and Touch (1977's Energizer). Heading the Tony Valor Sounds Orchestra, he cut his own Brunswick LP Sounds in 1977, which spawned the club hits "Gotta Get It" and "Ma-Mo-Ah." In 1978, he switched over to Paula for his most successful album, Love Has Come My Way, which continued to spin off club singles for the next couple of years. Among them were the title track (a Barry White-influenced duet with protégée Carol Williams), "Opus 22," and "Midnight Affair." Valor subsequently turned his attention to other groups, landing a hit with Soccer ("Come and Get It On") and masterminding the career of Fantasy, which topped the disco charts with "You're Too Late" in 1981. Valor eventually retired from producing to concentrate on his publishing and legal interests.
