This Spokane, WA native opens Metal & Wood with the subtly soulful "Running Around In My Dreams," a wistful serenade enveloped in a love-at-first-sight narrative where he finally meets the muse of his recurring dreams. The title track deviates from romantic themes to focus on more socially conscious and political subject matter - some of which is pretty heavy - but contrasted with the breezy groove of his acoustic tones he avoids sounding preachy, coming off like an earnest troubadour hopeful that a peaceful future is possible for the next generation. "Give Me One Reason" is a beautiful standout that boasts guest singer Jason Reeves adding some heavenly harmonies, especially in the song's ascending chorus where Wells and Reeves sing so closely that a third overtone pops out from their vocal braiding. "Let Go" downshifts into a deeply moving number that touches on the difficulty of ending relationships and saying goodbye, but the song's silver lining pulses in spare acoustic arpeggios, stripped down string accompaniment, and Wells' poetic lyrics.

I am very pleased with this album. All the songs of this album are beautiful, especially the lyrics, music and the voice of Tyrone Wells. Up till now I've never heard of the singer Tyrone Wells, due to this album I am now definitely a fan of Tyrone Wells music. Plan to buy more album of this singer/songwriter.
I'm really surprised that I'm only the second one to write a review for this album!
Recently saw Tyrone at a concert, and wow, he is one great live performer. Tyrone seems to hit his stride with this album. I didn't particular like his previous one, Remain, although there were some standout tracks. I felt like he was going for a symphonic rock sound on par with Coldplay or U2. But with metal and wood, i'm confronted with the music i fell in love with when I first heard Tyrone's music. I loved Tyrone's Hold On album for its soulful edge and feel-good songs, and Metal and Wood brings me back to that. It's got some soul in it as well, although i would says it's more acoustic pop/rock. He's a talented writer, able to tell a story with enough color to touch the heart. He's not absurdly abstract with words, which I appreciate, but he writes songs that are poignant, heartfelt, and communicate something of himself.
If you enjoy feel-good music with a touch of soul, give Tyrone Wells a listen! He just makes good music.
This albums is simply fantastic. From the catchy tracks like When the Birds Sing to some of the more somber tracks, this album has the capability to strike a chord with pretty much anyone emotionally. I have been following this artist for years and am consistently impressed with his work. I would recommend this album to everyone.
I first saw Tyrone Wells perform in 2006 at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. I thought he was great then and he's only gotten better. He has a great voice and excellent lyrics. I think he and Joe Purdy have similar styles. I look forward to future albums from Tyrone Wells!
Heard one of his songs through an Amazon Prime station and loved it. Bought the entire album and am very glad I did. Greatly enjoy the lyrics as well as the beat.
This is one of my all time favorite CDs. Now that we have a 7 month old baby boy, we love to sing along to the CD and he seems to really like it as well. Great job Tyrone!
