[Edit]The Real Thing is the first of three CDs by the duo of Nancy Marano & Eddie Monteiro, though it may be their least-known release, since it wasn't distributed as widely as their Denon CDs. Marano's lovely voice adapts equally well to any tempo or jazz style, backed by the imaginative Monteiro's electronically processed accordion, which bears no resemblance to its thin-toned predecessors heard on the likes of The Lawrence Welk Show; he also either sings a wordless backing line or takes an occasional chorus himself. Their upbeat interpretation of "I've Got Just About Everything" will put a smile on any face, while "The Real Thing" shows off the richness of Marano's voice backed by Monteiro's lush chords. They also do wonders with "I'm Shadowing You," the humorous if forgotten gem by Blossom Dearie and Johnny Mercer. This highly recommended CD is still available through www.nancymarano.com.
